Lyrically, Ruthless Waters is about Jimmy’s anxiety. The Basterds frontman tried to really give the listener a perspective on how it can feel and how it can affect someone’s all-around mental health on some days. Musically, it's one of the heaviest and most aggressive songs off the record “A Place to Call Hell” and the band thought it would perfectly match the intensity and meaning behind the lyrics. It’s one of the first songs they wrote, and one of their favourites on the album.

Ruthless Waters parle de l’anxiété de Jimmy. Le chanteur de Basterds y exprime à quel point cette condition peut affecter le bien-être et la santé mentale d’une personne à certains moments de sa vie. Le groupe a voulu transposer cette intensité au niveau de la musique et c’est ainsi que cette chanson est devenue l’une des plus puissantes et agressives de l’album. L’une des premières chansons qu’ils ont écrites, et l’une de leur préférée sur l’album.
